My natural curiosity and mission to dispel cosmetic myths birthed my natural recipes and formulas from my kitchen lab. I shared these kitchen secrets with clients and friends with raves and requests for more. My secret weapon was to manipulate results in skin and hair care using varying pH levels. Everything in my refrigerator and pantry was pH tested with litmus paper and digital meters. The results were credible as well as fascinating. More importantly, I discovered that positive results did not always correlate to dollars spent and in fact you could achieve notable improvements to skin and hair using ingredients from your grocery store.

The next thing I knew, a local TV producer, Craig Harris heard of my research and invited me to a meeting. He had a great idea to show the public on PBS how you could save time and money treating yourself to salon services at home for a fraction of the cost. KVIE in Sacramento produced and taped the show with a focus group in the studio. The group rated the show so well that American PBS jumped on board to fund a national release.

The next thing I knew I was approached by Jennifer Basey Sanders, of Prima Publishing, an imprint of Random House who wanted to give me an immediate advance to write an accompanying book. The only drawback was meeting a critical deadline to correspond to the show's December 2003 launch... I had 60 days to write a 70,000 word book. For the next two months, I rose at everyday at 4 am and wrote feverishly before my sons got up for school.

When Natural Beauty debuted that December it was the top rated beauty book on Amazon.com and a project that I was very proud to be a part of. My second book, A Beautiful New You, is my gift to all women that have found themselves lost in life and want a ticket out of "Frumpsville". I am ever grateful to my editors and Random House for their faith in me and for allowing me to touch the lives of others.

"May I say that your book has been such an inspiration to me. I have read many books but yours I have loved the most. I have rejoiced with the victorious stories of your women, their weight loss and their own improvement. What a pity for us in the South that we do not have the pleasure of enjoying you here in person! Keep inspiring women! It is such a blessing, such a need! We are all so different, yet so similar."

"You have no idea how timely and welcome your most recent book is to me. I happened upon your book in the library. The funny thing was, I knew I was holding something transforming in my hands……I can't thank you enough for your honesty and insight that I have discovered in A Beautiful New You, You have "hit the nail on the head" so many times I find myself nodding in agreement as I read. I wat you to know how much your words have empowered me to use my own ruby slippers and get off the yellow brick road! Many congratulations on your accomplishments and thank you again for your inspirational words."

"I run an eight suite operating room. My whole life has been about taking care of other people. I have read so many self-help books I could start a library. I bought your book (A Beautiful New You), on a whim. This will sound trite but your book changed my life. Perhaps it was the perfect message on the perfect day. You speak of epiphanies and that was the day I became as important as the many that I make a priority over myself. I felt a tremendous sense of relief and purpose. Thanks so much... I bought copies for all of my friends."
–Kerry M., USA - April 2005
"I am writing to thank you for sharing your life in your book. I am reading it and doing all the assignments you suggested. I saw myself in your book - the preconceived ideas about what will and won't work, the burden of being "under served" by myself, etc, etc. I have started doing my homework and Good Lord!... the compliments are non-stop. The last time I received a compliment was 3 years ago"
–Gloria M, Stockton, CA - Aug. 2006
"I have been reading your book Natural Beauty and wanted to tell you how much I have enjoyed your no-nonsense approach to skin treatments I was involved in the management side of the spa industry for several years and often found myself cringing at what women were being encouraged to do to their skin at great cost without many results. Thanks!"
–C.H. USA - Feb. 2008

–Lydia M. USA - April 2003
"I was inspired by your book. A friend gave me A Beautiful New You and I have not been able to tear myself away from it! I had stopped taking care of myself until I received your book. Upon reading it, I started exercise and buying fashionable outfits. I feel better... I am doing something so simple but incredibly important. Thank you. I love your book."
–S.D. Berkley, CA - Aug. 2006
"Your book changed my life! I spent WAY too many dollars chasing potions and scrubs at the cosmetic counters for 20 years and not getting the best skin I was hoping for. Your book made me realize the reality of the markups in the cosmetic industry. I really hated spending that kind of money on something that I was not sure was going to work. Thank you for writing a book that spoke to me!"
–J.S. Sacramento, CA - Sept. 2003
"I have your book and it's great!! I have tried so many things in it. Thanks for helping Public Television. Keep up the good work!"
